Using the traditional maki-e technique (lacquer sprinkled with gold and silver), this collection depicts 12 animal signs of the oriental zodiac and plants associated withe them. The original designs were drawn by Riki Nakamachi, one of the most eminent japanese-style artist and one of the judges of japanese Fine Art Exhibition. The artisans of the Kokkokai make every effort to depict the excellence of Nakamachi´s designs on every using maki-e technique. The graceful Togidashi maki-e designs on every pen will enchant everyone who picks up the pen. A pen from the Namiki Maki-e Zodiac makes the perfect commemorative gift for retirement, birthdays and other important milestones in life. It can also be an impressive souvenir.
